2010 Tournament Series Slalom Competition
Kurtis Nelson (209) 537-7180
Purpose:
The "Tournament Series" is a service provided to
Mid-Valley members only. By sharing their boats,
members provide ski opportunities for everyone.
Members who ski will be scored in a
tournament-like setting. At the end of the ski
season the scores are totaled, and awards given
to most improved male and female skiers.
Skiers and non-skiers can learn boat driving
safety, slalom judging, dock starting procedures,
and course maintenance all in a no-pressure,
low-key environment. Skiers can receive coaching
tips from other
members. Own a video camera? Bring it
and we'll do the video taping!
Fee to Ski:
Skiers shall pay $2.00 per slalom pass
or $8.00 for six consecutive passes... or
three falls. Wakeboarders shall pay $8.00 for 4
passes or 4 falls. Please pay the owner/driver for
your turns. Bring fives and ones to help make
change or pay by check. Make checks out to
MVWSC. Boat owner/driver or one person in their
family shall ski for free. Owner/driver receives
$60.00 for gas and expenses. Owner/driver
reimbursement shall be $15.00 if there are poor
ski conditions, low lake level, or no skiers.
Safety Rules:
An observer/swimmer must be in the
boat at all times. They must be qualified
to assist an injured skier.
Qualifications:
Boat drivers/skiers/passengers must be a
Mid-Valley member. For insurance purposes, boat
drivers must provide a copy of their current
insurance policy with a minimum of $500,000
liability coverage to the club secretary. Skiers and
drivers must also provide proof of active USA Water
Ski membership before the series begins July 1.
Sorry, no exceptions!
Skiing Dates:
The Wednesday Night Series begins June 30
and continues through September (weather
and water level permitting).
Skiing Order:
Those who arrive first, ski first. Those arriving later
or during second round, will enter the skiing order
immediately. When everyone has skied once, they
may resume a second round in order of
appearance.
Drivers/Boat Owners:
(New Reimbursement Policy)
You are required to bring slalom score sheets, a
clipboard, pen or pencil, tournament ski line and
handle, and a full tank of gas to each tournament
series. Turn in score sheets and all monies
collected to the treasurer. You will then be
reimbursed for the full amount of $60 at the next
club meeting.
Club Voice Mail:
Good communication is vital for a successful
Tournament Series. Drivers and skiers, please
utilize the club phone. Drivers should leave a
message the day before their pull date to let
members know their arrival time and again the day
of to confirm. The boat driver must use his/her own
judgment regarding the weather and call off
practice if weather conditions
are too severe, i.e. wind. Leave a message on the
club phone if you deem the conditions not
favorable for the practice. It is up to you to
determine if conditions are satisfactory for skiing.
Important - skiers can retrieve a driver's message
by calling 569-7817, dial *ISKI# before the
message is complete, and press 1 to review.
Drivers, leave your message
by calling 569-7817 and begin recording after the
tone. Utilizing the club phone will prevent needless
trips to the lake

Special Notes:
Parents, the Tournament Series is not the time to
teach your child the beginning fundamentals
(starts and wake crossings) of slalom skiing or
wakeboarding. We encourage you to teach them
the basic fundamentals on open water, away from
the slalom course, and where there are no
restrictions. The purpose of the Series
is to improve the slalom course or wakeboard
ability for those members who have already
learned the fundamentals.
